The first time Jesus sat down to this meal, among those gathered there was one who would doubt him, one who would deny him, one who would betray him, and they would all leave him alone before that night was over – and he knew it.
Still, he sat down and ate with them.
If he ate with them, surely he’s ready to eat with us.
You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to be sure.
You don’t have to be a member of this church.
You don’t have to be a saint.
All you have to be to eat at this table is hungry for "the medicine of immortality."
All things are ready; come, taste, and see how good God is! God will do the rest.
- from All I Really Want: Readings for a Modern Christmas, Quoted by Quinn G. Caldwell, possibly via Pastor Emily Brown, Hastings on the Hudson First Reformed Church, w/slight edits by yours truly. St. Ignatius of Antioch (d. 108 AD) called this meal the “medicine of immortality.”

Pastor Matt will be joining our Church Family Summer 2023. He is a lifelong United Methodist, first attending a UMC in 4th grade. As a youth, he was heavily involved in youth group, mission work, church council, and countless church activities. While in College, Pastor Matt served in missions at Mountain T.O.P. as well as A Christian Ministry in the National Parks. He also served as an intern at the United Methodist Campus Ministry at the University of Montana while attending law school. Following graduation, he worked as a prosecutor in Washington State, an occupation which grew his understanding of the grace of God, and the limitless power of God to reach all persons. Continuing to grow in faith, he led small groups, worked on countless ministries of the church, and coached a church-sponsored softball team. In 2016, he accepted his full-time call to ministry and enrolled at Princeton Theological Seminary. While in Seminary, he also pastored a congregation at Titusville UMC, Titusville, NJ, and worked as a Deacon and Anam Cara Administrator at Princeton Theological Seminary. After Seminary, he led the congregation of Bishop Janes United Methodist Church through countless changes, as they navigated Covid, created numerous online programs, and reformed their ministry focus. Pastor Matt is very excited to be joining us in Vermont, with his wife and three stepchildren.
